Dear Mr. President,
In connection with your imminent meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen as part of your special Summit with ASEAN leaders on February 15-16, 2016 at Sunnylands, Rancho Mirage, we Khmer-Americans and the Khmer diaspora throughout the world would like to urge you to treat him like a criminal that he is. We understand very well that he comes to America under the pretense of being the head of the Royal Cambodian Government. We also understand that for pure diplomacy you will have to receive him. But we know that you know that this man is well known among the people of Cambodia as an extremely sinister and cruel leader who has clung to power for over 30 years through trickery and violence. You must have known that Hun Sen is a former Khmer Rouge killing machine. All of us have lost loved ones and/or relatives to the Khmer Rouge. There is no way we can accept a former killer as our dear leader.
Hun Sen, the ex-Khmer Rouge, has remained prime minister through all past elections because he would not hesitate to use any means to silence or kill critics, and your former Ambassador William Todd surely must have informed you how at the close of the July 2013 general elections Hun Sen brought Chinese-supplied tanks and APCs to Phnom Penh, the capital, forcing the winning opposition leaders to take refuge in the US Embassy. We are sure you are well aware that this tyrant is an impostor.
Worse still, this person has confessed that he is a Vietnamese stooge. His rule has benefited his Vietnamese bosses and his own entourage while leaving the majority of Cambodians destitute and dispossessed.
We beg you, Mr. President, to tell this despot that the United States of America does not deal with a leader strongly despised by his own people who are being deprived of even the most basic democratic rights.
